Philosophical Paths Towards Balance

Ke-Sa-Ju: The Path of Cunning

The mind: Ways of the Diplomat

The Kalsan have a certain latitude in how they choose to live. Those that follow the Path of Cunning, believe that only in freedom can one truly live. However, one can not seek freedom. Freedom is not granted, it merely exists.

In Ke-Sa-Ju, one can realize the limits of the galaxy. Once those limits are found they can be broken and anything is possible.

  • No action should be mindless. Every action has a reaction. Think beyond impulse.
  • Strength is not measured by physical force alone. The mind shall always overcome the weakness of the body. Sharpen your mind not your sword.
  • A blade that is never used stays sharp.
  • Never forget the past it controls the present. Never lose sight of the present for it determines the future. Never disregard the future for it will be the past and the present soon enough.
  • Words shape the galaxy. The galaxy only exists in words. Use words wisely for the galaxy has nothing at all do to with words.
  • Follow the path where it leads--not where one wants to go. One can be the blade (the Ke), and one can be Reason (the Sa), and one can be action (the Ju) all in time.

Sa-Ju-Sa: The Path of Negotiation

Balance: Ways of the Merchant

The Kalsan have to serve many masters. Those that follow the Path of Negotiation believe that freedom is reactive. One can only be as free as the environment allows.

In Sa-Ju-Sa, one manipulates the limits of the galaxy.

  • Balance does not mean equality.  20 pounds of feathers is not equal to 20 pounds of gold.
  • Moderation does not necessitate equilibrium. If one makes a strong attack one must make a stronger defense to counter. However, balance will never be achieved through constant excess.
  • Every action must be precise and calculated to maintain balance.  Individual balance is primary. Balance oneself and the galaxy shall find balance.
  • One is ultimately responsible for their actions.  In good times, share goodness. In times of sorrow, accept the sorrow. Do not look to others for goodness. Do not blame another for one’s sorrow. Balance can quickly be undone when focusing on goodness and sorrow.
  • Truth exists in one’s self. The only refuge one can find is in one’s inner light. Strengthen one’s self and one shall find a truth.
  • Do not accept blind wisdom, but a person of intelligence listens to sage advice.
  • Meditation reveals the truth that all living things share a common nature, a nature concealed by the veils of illusion.
  • Never lose sight of reality. Reason is the blade of the Kalsan.

Ke-Ke-Ke: The Path of Loyalty

Leadership: Ways of the Warrior
The Kalsan have to be loyal. Those that follow the Path of Loyalty believe that freedom comes with a price. One must sacrifice certain freedoms in order to enjoy larger rewards. Often this means that the Kalsan must obey orders regardless of personal opinion.

In Ke-Ke-Ke, one tackles the injustices of the galaxy and does not run from a challenge.

  • A skilled leader manages the resources of the galaxy. A skillful commander subdues anopponent by capturing the opponent's essential resources. Control the space-stations and one controls the crews that would fight against you.
  • One’s crew can only be a strong as its leader.
  • Opportunism and flexibility are the two swords of the Kalsan.
  • The victor in a battle knows when to fight and when not to engage.
  • One must always balance the Five Struggles--the five options in any given situation:This; That; Both; Neither; Unknown (Engage; flee; strategic retreat; do nothing; or the unexpected).
  • Greed is the quickest way to lose balance, but do not deny the self.
  • A sharp mind and a sharp blade is all a Kalsan needs.
