'Kola Spacers' and social unrest go hand in hand.
Kroy is no stranger to revolution, upheavals, and going to extremes to change the government. The Kroy Territory was founded amid injustice, excessive governmental control, and inequality. But now, in a time of wide-spread disillusionment, a political movement has begun to protest in ways that seem increasingly detrimental to the rest of Kroy.
Kroy's own struggle for independence goes back to the 4th Dynasty when rebels jettisoned thousands of drums of soda pop as a protest against the "cola tax." In reverence to their predecessors, one of the groups opposing protection of the banks took the name of the 'Kola Spacers'. And just like the protesters who have come before, the Kola Spacers do not keep their unhappiness to themselves. They hold regular protests, ranging from large parties that march on state capitals, to quiet dinners with notables in their community. But they state their grief high, loud, and often.
It was a natural fit that the Rhinokens would ally with the new Kola Spacers. But the list of Kola Spacer supporters is turning from mildly impressive to increasingly ominous. Everyone is fighting for the ideological control in the party without any clear reasons as to why they should be in charge. And that rudderless confusion has had consequences.
Shady characters have joined the Kola Spacer ranks with the hopes of getting everything from money to power. There have been reports of volunteers putting time in for news sources dedicated to the Kola Spacer cause, only to find someone was using their efforts to create a start-up business that would only support the leader of that group.
Even the upcoming Kola Slam isn't without controversy. The entrance price is 500 krohl, a price no real grassroots supporter could afford. And the organizers of the slam have only authorized five news sources access to cover the event - all of them Rhinoken supported.
But perhaps most menacing are those seeking to mold the Kola Spacers as an outlet or recruitment field for Heritage hatred or violent anarchy. The most well-known is the KSO, a Kroy-supremacist group that is using Ebaj’s decisions to fuel Heritage discrimination. While the election of Baronet Ebaj, who comes from a Terra-Kroy Heritage, is a progressive step forward for Kroy, his election has played on some prejudices. There are many people in the system who have had a knee-jerk reaction to Ebaj's successes. Feelings of disenfranchisement have combined with a feeling of unfairness in some. That gut reaction has helped to increase the membership of hate groups, like the KSO, and increase the instances of hate crimes. And these groups want in with the Kola Spacers--thinking that there are many among the movement that share their beliefs of hatred and anger.
The frustration these organizations play upon is understandable--Baronet Ebaj has made some discouraging choices which began as the recession was in full-swing. Recently elected Baronet Ebaj was trying to find a solution to prevent further financial ruin, and there were many rumors about what method he would eventually choose. But Ebaj's decision to restore some semblance of order was not a popular one. He headed an action to give trillions of Krols to financial institutions 'too big to fail.'
On paper it seemed a moderate move. Having the large banks go bankrupt would cause incalculable damage. But those same banks caused the recession and most regular Kroy citizens wanted drastically punished. At first Kola Spacers were those who simply thought -regardless of political party - that Ebaj's decision was spectacularly bad. But the Rhinoken political party soon decided to back the protesters and their groups. And out of those protesters, the Kola Spacers were born.
The victorious chants of "Kroy Forever!" can be heard increasingly at political rallies for KSO separatist factions and Kola Spacer meetings alike. And both carry the same message, “Down with Baronet Ebaj!”
