Improvements in health, wealth, and equality have made life better than it was a dynasty ago.

Life in the 10th Dynasty is very challenging. We stand on the brink of galactic destruction and a possible end to human civilization once again. It's easy to look back on the years before the 8th dynasty and think somehow things were better back then. Things were certainly easier for some, and none of the problems of the modern galactic age existed. However, even through the goggles of nostalgia, it's hard to deny that life was harder, shorter, and more unfair than it is today.

Take for example the life expectancy at the end of the 8th Dynasty. A healthy person could expect to live just 40 years or so. Thanks to medical advances, a child born today can hope to live twice as long, and infant mortality is at an all time low. Before the 8th Dynasty, 10% of mothers died during childbirth, but now the number is close to zero.

It's easy to think that people in past dynasties were healthier because they lived closer to nature simulations and their TerraBases were not as crowded. But in their lives was the ever-present fear of serious diseases and the rapid spreading of viruses through recycled and unfiltered air.

And life between the 4th and  the 9th Dynasty was no less difficult. Between both Galactic Wars and the 8191 flu, there was an enormous amount of loss of life and limb.

But these events created the need to experiment. New theories - like advancements in the germ theory of disease – were tested in an environment that held enormous opportunity for perfecting experimental treatments. When these new and daring ideas were paired with modern machinery, the advances came at astonishing speed. Out of this crucible of creativity came the life-saving innovations we enjoy. At the beginning of the 10th Dynasty many serious diseases went from pandemic levels to incidental.

So not only will the children born today live longer, they will also live healthier. And they will likely be wealthier than their parents.

The old saying "back in the day, a krol was a lot of money," is false. Even after we convert the salaries of the past into "real krol," we’re making more money now than we were in the beginning of the dynasty. Wages have gone up 9 krol per hour over the last few dynasties.

That’s partially due to how we now generate wealth. In all the past recorded galactic history before the middle of the current dynasty, the human race did not have the opportunities that exist. The materials we produce and sell are reflected in the GGP, or Gross Galactic Product, which has consistently gone up.

And it's not just a wealth of funds that has come about. Better methods in farm production have ensured that the crops we grow today are grown more efficiently. And better vaccines ensure Creep are bigger and less susceptible to disease. The average farmer on a growth satellite can now feed three times the number of people they could in the beginning of the dynasty. And they will only spend half the time working in the field.

But farmers are not the only ones with new opportunities. Part of why the good old days weren't so good comes down to who was in charge. With minorities and women forced into a back seat, only a fraction of the population could be allowed to contribute. But as more and more people were allowed to participate, society flourished.

A large part of the increase in wealth could be directly linked to in increase in income for minorities. The income of the Terra-Kroy Heritage rose more than 1,000% since the end of slavery in the 4th Dynasty. Even though Terra-Kroy income remains 25% below that of Kroy, the increase has created better opportunities in education, health, home ownership, and life expectancy.

And if you add those figures into the success found by women in the workplace, it's no wonder wealth and prosperity has been booming. The number of women who graduate from higher education has gone up 40% since mid-dynasty. And with higher education more job opportunities have opened up. Women's wages are not equal to men's yet, but the gap is closing.

Essentially, life has improved in almost every way during the past dynasty. Unlike the ‘good old days,’ we are healthier, wealthier, and more open minded. We have the tools to combat everything from disease to drought, from a heart attack to a hacking cough.

Our dynasty has seen rapid changes in what was considered the inescapable norms of life. Through technology, innovation, and outright gumption, the human race has improved its existence on almost every level. So, although galacticism presents new daily challenges and the need to balance these advances against our rate of consumption, the best time to be alive, in terms of health, wealth, and freedom… is right now.
